Build emotionally healthy business environments
In order to build an emotionally healthy business environment it’s important for leaders to weigh in the human factor both when hiring but also as a way of leading. It goes without saying that companies with a healthy work environment are going to shine in regards to employer branding and in the long run are on track to secure long-term employment.
One of the most important tasks of a leader is to ensure that the team performs. No company can survive for long without reaching targets, checking off KPI’s and turning the required revenue. But revenue and success always starts with the team and a team in lack of a healthy work environment is bound to fail.
There is a lot of calibration that can be done in order to make the employment valuable and long lasting. Here is a short list of things worth looking into.
1. Realize which responsibilities motivates specific employees
Instead of clinging on to totally defined positions and responsibilities it could be an idea to start focussing on defining the job description around the specific employee. It’s all about being open minded when it comes to redefining responsibilities but having a clear agreement on expectations and on how the responsibilities are carried out.
2. Keep a stress free environment
Stressed employees are not a sound way forward in ensuring a long lasting employment. If you are stressed in your everyday work you are bound to make mistakes, and unwillingly contribute to an environment that values quantity over quality. Stress often emerges from miscommunication about responsibilities and tasks, and seldom from being busy. As a leader you should keep that in mind.
3. Be open to rethinking working hours
Depending on the type of job it is totally possible for an employee to work less hours and still reach the required KPI’s. In some instances doing creative work like content creation is often about being in the right state of mind and less about meeting a 40 hour work week.
4. Promote a holistic work-life balance
By getting to know your employees and what they value in life in general you will get the opportunity to promote a healthy work-life balance. For example if someone needs to pick up their child early from kindergarten every wednesday or if someone has illness in the family you have a golden opportunity to show the whole team how the company promotes a holistic balance between private and professional life.
Always keep in mind that employees are the most important resource in any company and keeping a healthy work environment is a direct way of ensuring that your team will flourish and keeping the company in business.
